Drug delivery for nerve tissue regeneration

The use of implantable biomedical devices for the repair of peripheral nervous system injuries shows great promises for a complete recovery of the physiological nerve function. The neutralization of pro-fibrotic factors like TGF-/spl beta/1 and the promotion of an oriented growth of the transected neurites are of pivotal importance in nerve regeneration. This study focuses on the investigation of the diffusion kinetics of a non specific antibody in nerve guidance channels based on the use of natural compounds. They have been found to be able to work as a depot of antibodies but the release kinetics resulted to be rather fast.
