When the interference in a user channel is too high, the channel has to be reallocated to prevent service degradation and call loss. The paper describes the selection for the best time slots in a UTRA-TDD system during channel reassignment for ongoing calls based on interference conditions. The selection involves looking at the total interference in each time slot in the cell, the packet losses in all the time slots during channel reassignment, the number of users in each time slot, the total transmission power required in each time slot, and random channel assignment. Simulation results show that each selection scheme performs differently at different traffic loads in terms of number of packet losses, required transmission power and interference generated in each time slot. The above investigation is compared relative to a fixed channel allocation scheme.
