This paper describes the use of a dc constant current power supply to power a multilayer launching system. The power supply showed good constant current performance and satisfactorily gave constant acceleration to the launch package. The working principles of a multilayer launching system are given briefly and the means for using lower current to provide the same electromagnetic thrust are analyzed. The dc constant current power supply was used to experiment with a range of pure resistances as the load. We have also demonstrated the concept of increasing electromagnetic thrust for a given current by using multilayer rails.
