StuDOM project: local computer networks in student dormitories

Project StuDOM has been started with the clear perception that the access to educational and other resources available through the global computer network is extremely important for academic process today, and even more important in the near future. The main goal of the project is to ensure the Internet connectivity to all students living in student dormitories in Croatia. In this paper we present the current results of the StuDOM project. Special emphasis has been put on secure access to the network where we followed 802.1x standard. Furthermore the novelty of our approach is in using the authentication and authorization mechanisms built on top of the distributed LDAP directories infrastructure in CARNet network
