FPGA has gained popularity in modern space computing in recent years. Its reconfigurability provides the versatility yet redundancy typically desired in space operations. One of the important keys to the success of an FPGA based system in space applications is the real-time task/process scheduling. In such an environment, processes that miss their respective deadlines are to be avoided or minimized. A fuzzy rule-based approach is proposed to deal with the scheduling problem for an FPGA based system. It is derived from our original work on process scheduling for non-reconfigurable processors with additional sub-modules to assist process selection and preemption decision.
