Noise dependent buildup of multiple pulses in mode-locked lasers along with a cascade of phase transitions

Successive formation and destruction of pulses in passive mode-locked lasers occur with a series of phase transitions, as noise (or power) is varied. We present experimental demonstration and a statistical-mechanics theory, including "thermodynamic" phase diagrams.
