This paper presents a simple low cost passive ultra-wideband pulse generator circuit using minimum discrete components. The design eliminates the requirement of an external DC biasing source to snap a step recovery diode when a single supply driving source is used. It is easy to construct and capable of generating sub-nanosecond higher order derivative of Gaussian pulses triggered by a rising edge for a single supply driving. The rise and fall time of the source can be within 2 ns to 30 ns, which is easily obtained from many digital devices. Simulations conducted using advanced design systems (ADS) and in-house fabrication of the actual circuit show that it is capable of meeting the spectrum mask set by Federal Communications Commission of US (FCC)
