Combining Turbo-codes and high order modulation is a simple but effective way to improve the bandwidth efficiency. Since the Turbo decoder requires binary soft decisions as the input information, the demodulator has to provide bit level soft information (LLR) to it. In this paper, a novel simplified algorithm to calculate LLR is developed, which will remarkably reduce the computational complexity, and has nearly no performance loss.
