The paper proposes a technique for constructing a wavelet matched to a given signal. The design of the match wavelet can be formulated as finding a minimal or maximal projection of a given signal on to scaling subspace. The key development is to construct the match wavelet by a structural filter bank of the wavelet rather than by a scaling function. The method can reduce the cost of calculation when decomposing a signal by wavelet. The design procedures for the match wavelet and an example for matching to an ultrasound echo are also presented.
