Genetic algorithm (GA) is an adaptive search technique based on natural selection and genetic rules. GA takes place in various scientific applications and it can be also used to determine the membership functions in fuzzy system. In this paper, a new approach to the recognition of odors is presented. This approach has been implemented using a database of camphorated molecules and an expert knowledge in the fuzzy rule form, for these molecules. The aim of the study is to adjust the shape of membership functions using GA.
