This work presents a frequency domain F-statistics based approach to reduce the complexity of RAKE receivers for multi-user CDMA systems. A multi-path frequency selective slowly fading channel is considered. In this approach the channel model is assumed as (A. A. Abd El-Sallam and A. M. Zoubir, Sep. 2003) to be an unknown length FIR filter with taps located at integer values of the chip duration. Using the average periodogram and modified delay estimation techniques, the model parameters are estimated. Based on these estimates and under a certain level of significance, an F-statistic based approach is then applied to identify the true non-zero or significant parameters of the model. Simulation using these identified parameters with the RAKE receiver shows that the system performance is improved over other classical methods.
