A modified zone model predictive control algorithm is proposed and developed through the soft constraint method. Zone trajectory method is proposed to further improve the control performance and a tuning parameter is provided to trade off the response performance and model accuracy. The estimation of zone violation and the selection of the approximate set point when the control variable violates its zone constraint are avoided. The effective performance is shown by the simulation results. The stability of the algorithm is also analyzed.
