We propose a novel energy management system for hybrid electric vehicles. The proposed system predicts a future driving pattern based on past driving data and determines the appropriate distribution of energy. In order to realize this strategy, previous driving data must be stored effectively because the large amount of driving data makes on-line realization of this strategy difficult. In this paper, we focus our attention on a commuting route and propose a method that gathers a simple driving database and constructs a state transition diagram. Finally, the driving database is configured by using actual driving patterns.
