A summary of how FACTS controllers are studied in an AC system is presented. The distinction is made as to why an instantaneous solution is needed for studying the integration of a FACTS controller into an AC system. Specific examples of an SVC, STATCOM and a UPFC are presented along with a procedure for examining interactions between nonlinear controllers.
