This work presents a perceptual order for Y-Cr-Cb (YUV) colour spaces. The approach extends from the single colour channel model of D.M. Tan et al. (2004) and D.M. Tan et al. (2001) and the RGB colour domain model of D.M. Tan et al. (2001) that mimics the human visual system (HVS) in exploiting its intra-band and inter-orientational masking properties. Although the proposed perceptual coder retains most of the embedded block coding with optimized truncation (EBCOT) coding features in D. Taubman (2000) and is fully bit-stream compliant with JPEG2000 standard of M. Boliek et al. (2000), the simulation results have revealed comparable or better visual masking of JPEG2000 verification model 8.0 coder.
