An efficient novel time-domain finite-element approach for the analysis of photonic crystal resonant cavities is here introduced. This approach includes a current source, the full-band scheme, isoparametric triangular elements, and perfectly matched layers. The resonant frequency, quality factor, effective modal area, and field distribution can be obtained in a single simulation.
