We present an attractive approach for OFDM transmission, using variable-length pilot symbols (VLP) and a pre-FFT equalizer, performed by time-domain signal processing. The performance of our proposed system is examined using broadband and fast fading ISI channels. The results indicate the potential for a high-quality channel for the fourth generation (4G) mobile communication system that provides both a data rate of more than 100 Mbps and speed of more than 200 km/h, and has a delay spread of approximately σ=2μs.
