This paper presents an overview of the radar sensor technology used in adaptive cruise control (ACC) applications. The performance tradeoffs of the different modulation schemes and scanning antenna types used by these radar sensors are discussed. The test requirements of these millimeter wave radar sensors during production, installation on a vehicle, and during after-market service are also discussed. Different test methods used for characterizing and aligning these radar sensors are presented.
