In this paper a major choosing system is proposed for remote students. Because of the uncertainty of the major choosing problem, we use an uncertain reasoning method in the system. The method is a modification of the supporting degree for uncertain reasoning proposed by Zhou and Ju (2000) and Zhou and Peng (2003) and is entirely based on the knowledge of students. A detailed description of the major choosing system proposed in this paper is given, some basic properties of the system are discussed, a careful analysis on the whole process of the system is made. The paper concludes with an example which comprehensively illustrates our idea of the system. The results in the paper show that our method in this paper is effective and reasonable.
