The mixed finite element method for a type of nonlinear parabolic equation arising from the nonlinear time-dependent eddy current field is discussed. Offering completely discretized schemes, applied to calculations of eddy current field in transformers under overexciting conditions, this method has been proved to have some eminent advantages, with simpler calculation of formulas, higher accuracy, and less computing time than those of the conventional finite element method
