A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide is studied. By connecting a vertical strip at the end of the center strip of the coplanar waveguide, the input impedance matching of a low-permittivity dielectric resonator antenna can be improved substantially. Moreover, it offers an impedance bandwidth as wide as ∼22% and a maximum gain of ∼5.5 dBi. The measured radiation patterns are stable across the operating frequency range.
