A systematic and efficient initialisation method for the expectation-maximisation (EM) algorithm in time delay estimation is presented. This EM initialisation method is implemented in the frequency domain based on the alternating projection approach. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm significantly improves the performance of the EM algorithm.
