Surface-mount reactive components can now operate in the GHz region. Hence, they can be employed as loading elements to frequency selective surfaces (FSS) without altering significantly the geometry of the FSS elements. In the numerical and experimental results presented, such capacitive and inductive elements shift the band-stop frequency of strip-element FSS towards higher and lower values, respectively.
