A cell admission control scheme is designed for the multiservice satellite systems. Two service groups: variable bit rate service group (VBRG) and fixed bit rate service group (FBRG) have been tested on the system and their performance are compared. VBRG outperforms FBRG in terms of success rate of cell admission, at the expense of reduced communication bit rate, which is not a serious problem because there is a mechanism for restoration to original bit rate.
