The design, fabrication and characterisation of several one-dimensionally periodic photonic crystal microcavity filters in ridge waveguides, with light transmission of more than 90%, are presented. Transition mode-matching features are incorporated both within and outside the cavity region to enhance the quality factor and light throughput.
