As CSCW applications are used widely in many fields, there is an increasing need for designing a CSCW system middleware which provides the necessary cooperative functions and communication services in CSCW systems to avoid developing the basic module repeatedly. Based on the integrated analysis of CSCW environments, this paper introduces a middleware design model and its basic running mechanism based on the CORBA technique. In addition, an object-oriented design method is used to program, and a set of class libraries and API are provided on which developers can build new CSCW application systems in component-based mode with higher efficiency and code-reuse rate.
