This paper describes the process of designing and building a multimedia database that will be used for Chinese audiovisual bimodal speech recognition. For the sake of reuse in further project and system's extendable ability, the project uses an object oriented method to analyse the requirement and designs the system. Finally, to realizing this object oriented database system model with a current relation database management system, the project maps the theoretic database model to the current relational database system produced. In this way, the whole project not only has the flexibility of the object oriented design method, but also applies the powerful data management and network ability of the current relational database system.
