An investigation of coding the NTSC color TV signal in the component form is carried out. C-matrix transform (CMT) and the hybrid (CMT/DPCM) coding are simulated on an intrafield basis. These techniques are found to be closely comparable to DCT and the corresponding hybrid coding techniques [15, 16]. CMT, which is an integer approximation to the DCT, is expected to yield almost the same processed picture quality as the DCT with less hard-ware.
