To avoid some of the problems that arise in the pattern recognition of waveforms using conventional feature extractors, we derive a feature extraction technique based on autoregressive (AR) modelling. The technique generates a feature vector whose components are the coefficients of the "best" AR fit to the data. Levinson's algorithm and Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC) are used to help furnish the best coefficients and best AR order respectively.
