Two modifications of dynamic time warping methods for discrete utterance recognition are proposed. They compensate for inaccurate endpoint detection and emphasize the differentiating regions of similar sounding utterances. The methods proposed are shown to give an increased recognition accuracy on a difficult vocabulary containing many similar sounding words.
