The influence of an axial magnetic field on the performance of a coaxial vircator

It is shown, using a plane magnetic diode as a model, that an axial magnetic field tends to interfere unfavorably with the operation of a coaxial vircator. When the magnetic field reaches its near cutoff value, the operation of the vircator should cease altogether.
