On the design of FIR digital filters with prescribed stopband or passband deviation

The utility of the constrained Chebyshev approximation for the design of FIR filters is discussed in this letter. This method can often replace an iterated execution of the classical Parks-McClellan program and has more flexibility for a number of applications.
