A reflectometer capable of resolution equivalent to 100 ps in the time domain is described. Our implementation uses the Faraday effect caused by an alternating magnetic field to create a time varying polarization rotation which is analyzed and synchronously detected. It is simple, inexpensive, independent of fiber dispersion, applicable to fiber bundles, and is capable of remote field application.
