The design and operational characteristics of a high power pulser-sustained CW CO2laser is described. The "photoinitiated impulse-enhanced electrically excited" structure possesses operational features similar to an "electron beam-sustained" device and as such may provide a relatively simple and inexpensive alternative in high power CO2laser design.
