A complex-valued ghost cancellation reference (CVGCR) signal for TV broadcasting is described. The CVGCR has the following advantages over all other TV GCRs: a perfectly flat frequency spectrum; an ideal zero autocorrelation function; high signal energy; and arbitrarily long length. Because of these advantages, the complex-valued reference signal has already been successfully applied to modem channel identification. A mathematical description for transmitting a CVGCR over a TV channel with a modulation system is given. Some simulation results are presented
