A computer study of mode conversion in thin-film optical waveguides using magnetooptic GdIG as a substrate is reported. The efficiency of the mode-converting structure is analyzed and compared to other structures in order to gain design insight. It is shown that 100-percent mode conversion (TErightleftarrowTM) is possible if both modes satisfy the phase condition required of mode propagation.
