In thin-film magnetic recording media, noise increases as bit density increases, and is mainly associated with magnetic transition. The present study concerns generation of noise equivalent to this transition noise on thin film disk media using an unsaturated DC erasure method without writing transitions. The relationship between media noise waveform and peak shift of signals measured in a bit-by-bit manner is also investigated. Good relationship between peak shift and Hcfluctuation of media as the integration of the media noise waveform is found.
