The authors have already published the results of their studies on the transportation mean using an X-Y type Linear Induction Motor (X-Y type LIM) in the material handling system(1). This transportation system consists of a pallet made of an aluminum and steel composite body utilized as the secondary plate of the X-Y type LIM and its primary side as a stator. It is capable of propelling and noncontact switching of pallets by an electric mean. In the present study, the authors introduce motion analysis model of the switching system, derived the equation of motion of the pallet, performed numerical calculations and compared the calculation results with measured values obtained by the testing, thereby clarifying the switching characteristics to the thrust of the X-Y type LIM, entry speed to the switching-section of the pallet, and also its switching angle. Further, the authors applied this switching system to a high-speed magnetic levitation railway system and conducted dynamic simulation of the railway vehicle, and obtained the thrust of the X-Y type LIM necessary for switching.
