The pseudoternary systems Er2(Fe,Mn)14B and Er2(Fe,Co)14B have been studied and we report an unusual variation of the unit cell volume with composition across the limited range of formation of the tetragonal Nd2Fe14B-type phase. Compositions outside of this range are multiphase consisting of known intermetallic compounds.
