Analytical modelling of perpendicular recording

An analytical model for perpendicular magnetic recording is presented which is capable of calculating 'ab-initio' the magnetisation distributions written by an 'arbitrary' head field into both single and double layer recording media. Magnetisations are shown to follow the head field distribution existing at the medium's top surface.
