A study has been made of a system consisting of a pair of magnets with thin plates of permeable material on their inner faces. The effect of the plates on the profile of the field between the magnets is predicted as a function of the geometry and the permeability and the way in which the uniformity can be improved is demonstrated.The effect of the permeability is very limited.
