Magnetoresistive sensors for rotary position encoders

It is pointed out that a magnetoresistor is very sensitive to flux changes, and may therefore operate with wide tolerances in the air gap between it and the encoder wheel. It may also be designed with a high impedance for low power consumption. A general description of a magnetic encoder and its typical output is given. Encoder wheels and magnetoresistors are discussed. Encoder performance is examined: the continuous output wave from one channel with 40 mV peak-to-peak is shown.<
