A novel receiver structure for joint carrier, channel and data estimation is proposed for WPAN systems. The proposed scheme utilizes the properties of the CAZAC preamble sequence to extract the channel impulse response (CIR) and frequency offset. It integrates G. Ungerboeck's MLSE (see IEEE Trans. on Commun., vol.com-22, no.5 p.624-36, 1974) and a dual-model PLL optimally. Compared with the conventional joint estimation techniques, which includes the most effective PSP (per-survivor processing) estimation, the proposed scheme has smaller complexity and equivalent BER performance. It is shown that by trading off phase tracking performance and complexity, the proposed scheme is an efficient solution to high-rate WPAN systems.
