Variations on single-carrier (SC) direct-sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) signaling schemes have seen much study, especially the multicarrier (MC) approach, and to a lesser degree the multitone (NIT) approach. A comparison of the techniques in the presence of partial band jamming has not yet been done. This impairment is of interest in the spectral overlay of narrowband and DS-SS systems, and in military anti-jam systems. We provide new analytical and computer simulation results for performance of NIT and MC DS-SS in the presence of partial band pulsed jamming. We investigate performance as a function of the number of subcarriers, per-subcarrier processing gain, and jammer bandwidth and center frequency for two different types of interfering signals. Comparisons between simulations and analysis show good agreement, and show that for some cases the NIT approach can be more robust than MC.
