We derive closed form equations for the mapping of Eb/Nt against multipath impulse responses for two types of RAKE receivers (max-ratio and weighted max-ratio combiner) for a UTRAN forward link. Based upon these derivations and simulation results, we show that the frame erasure rate curves are nearly identical for various multipath scenarios when they are mapped against the average of Eb/Nt measured at every slot during an interleaving period. We also identify a class of multipath channels based upon their power delay profiles for which the classical way of estimating interference fails, and requires inclusion of correlation effects at certain fingers of the RAKE receiver.
