Mobile location is one of the fastest growing areas for the development of new technologies, services and applications. This paper describes the channel models that were developed by the Technical Subcommittee TIP1.5 in order to test various emergency mobile location technologies prior to their consideration by the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC) between 1997 and 1998. We also present the PCS 1900 extension to this model, which is based on the COST-231 extended Hata model as well as the original Okumura graphical representation of signal propagation characteristics in different environments.
