An algorithm similar to a phase-locked loop is proposed for the estimation of the frequency of a periodic signal. It is capable of using harmonic components for improved estimation performance. In a similar manner, multiple signals may also be combined in the algorithm, enabling the estimation of the frequency of a periodic source, given information from multiple sensors that may not all capture the fundamental component of the source signal.
