MPEG-4 simple profile enables the use of 2D mesh for video object motion tracking. The deformation of the video object is expressed in terms of the motion vectors of the mesh topology. The mesh-based motion tracking generates a mesh topology and set of motion vectors that represents the dynamics of the video object. The motion compensation is to predict the video object using texture mapping. This paper presents an embedded memory architecture for MPEG-4 applications. The proposed memory architecture uses the mesh based motion compensation for MPEG-4 video stream decoding. It uses a simplified affine transformation algorithm. The memory architecture is prototyped, simulated and synthesized for 0.35 μm CMOS technology using TSMC standard cells and the Dvp2 custom cells.
