The PBG - Photonic BandGap, are structures that affect the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a media. This feature makes possible the design of optimized microwave devices like antennas, waveguides and couplers. This work presents the characterization results of CPW microstrip lines on an alumina substrate using UC-PBG - Uniplanar Compact Photonic BandGap lattices. The results show that the PBG transmission lines have gaps in the transmission coefficient S21, with "forbidden" bands in some specific frequencies determined by the geometry of the PBG structures. These structures should find wide applications for high-performance and compact circuit components in microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuits.
