This paper presents an efficient and systematic modeling and simulation methodology for complex power distribution networks to meet the higher demands of the effective design and analysis of such structures. A locally three-dimensional model is used to model correctly the field behavior at irregular discontinuities such as splits, holes, vias, and pins in the power-ground plane structure. Systematic equivalent circuit synthesis is used to make the model compatible with SPICE and thus facilitate the connection of the model to circuit components external to it. These systematic procedures are demonstrated by means of numerical results that demonstrate the sort of geometric complexity that can be accommodated by the proposed modeling methodology.
